AUGUST OUTDOOR MEETING

The Shawano Dems will be having their August meeting at 7:00 pm on August 19th.  It will be held in the grassy area behind our office at 1404 E. Green Bay St. (across from Perkin’s driveway).  Bring a chair and your mask.  Signs for Biden, Stuck, Sarnwick and Danrau will be available for pick up.

Steve Menard will be speaking about the Voter Protection Program and Aaron Damrau will explain why it’s time for accountability and change in the District Attorney’s office.  Here is a Letter to the Editor he wrote:

I’m running as an Independent for Menominee-Shawano County District Attorney November 3rd because our community deserves an efficient and effective DA’s office. I currently live on my family’s dairy farm in Tigerton where I grew up. I’m the sixth generation to live on the family farm, and I’m a 7th generation Shawano County resident. I moved home after law school because I wanted to make a difference in my community and to help the people that gave me so much growing up.

I strongly believe our community can do better in effectively prosecuting crime. I’m running because I believe that in order to face the challenges of our time, we must be simultaneously tough on crime and smart on crime. We need a DA who can consider the downstream effects of prosecutorial decisions; someone who understands that life is not black and white.

Our Counties need a DA who is able to think outside of the box and who is willing to listen to differing opinions and ideas. We deserve a DA who is willing to look to other counties for the best practices in addressing the drug epidemic; someone who is able to work as a team within the County to implement the best practices. This is the time for our District Attorney to be hands on in his approach to attacking crime and not to be sitting on the sidelines letting others do the work. Our Counties need a DA who is capable of managing an office with the resources we have, not the resources we want.

Shawano isn’t a “normal” county, and many attorneys refuse to practice here because of how backwards DA’s office operates. Over the next few months, I will educate the taxpayers on the practices of current DA’s office and talk about what we need to do differently.

Since 2018, our Counties had 7 felony cases dismissed because the DA’s office failed to file routine paperwork on time, including 2 felony cases dismissed the day of Jury Trial because the DA’s office failed to file the routine paperwork on time. This isn’t normal and frankly, I’m befuddled on how it happened. Waupaca and Langlade Counties had zero cases dismissed like that in the same timeframe.

If you elect me District Attorney, I will bring to the office the work ethic of a farm boy and I will work diligently to protect our community.
