THREE CANDIDATES COMING TO SHAWANO
The race for a Democratic governor is on. In the next month, three of the candidates will be visiting Shawano County.
On Monday, September 18, Mike McCabe will be at the Civic Center in Shawano from 6:00-8:00 pm. The Exploring Now Book Club has invited him to come to discuss his book, Blue Jeans in High Places, The Coming Makeover of American Politics. Even if you haven’t read his book, you are invited to witness the discussion of the progressive ideas that are presented in his book.
On Wednesday, September 20, Andy Gronik will be speaking at the Civic Center at 7:00 pm ahead of the Shawano Dems’ meeting. Andy is a businessman who believes he has the ideas to make Wisconsin a global leader with good-paying jobs in science, technology, manufacturing, and agriculture.
The third candidate, Senator Kathleen Vinehaut, is from Buffalo County. Senator Vinehaut will be the keynote speaker at the Shawano Dems’ Fall Fundraising Dinner on Saturday, October 7, at the Shawano Lake Golf Course. She has been traveling the state talking about her alternative budget which uses taxpayer money in a manner which is fair to all Wisconsinites.
FALL FUNDRAISING DINNER
The Shawano Dems’ fall dinner is a fundraiser for next year’s expenses. With the upcoming elections, there will be some additional costs. One thing the Dems would like to do throughout this next year is to produce radio ads on the WTCH radio station, which broadcasts from Shawano. The ads would communicate progressive ideas and provide exposure to Democratic candidates as the November election draws near. All donation money will be spent on these ads. A donation form will be mailed or emailed.
The dinner will be held at the Shawano Lake Golf Course on October 7th. In addition to Senator Vinehaut, Judge Tim Burns will be speaking. Judge Burns is running for the position of Supreme Court Justice, an election which will take place in April with the primary in February. The cost of the family style dinner is $25.
POLL WORKERS NEEDED
It is important to have progressive thinking poll workers at every voting site in Shawano County. If you are interested in performing this civic task, please contact Jan Koch (715-526-2955 or email shawanodems2@gmail.com) by September 30th. You will be required to have some training but will also be compensated for your time.

Chair’s Comments
A big thank you to all who volunteered their time in the Shawano Dems’ fair booth. We had 100+ people stop by to put a tack on the road they considered to be the worst in Shawano County. The map was shared with the Shawano County Highway Department and the results will be announced on the WTCH Breakfast Club on Sept. 14th.
The Shawano Area Women’s Network is taking on several projects. Volunteers got signatures in the Village of Wittenberg to allow a referendum in their Spring election which attempts to overturn the Citizens United Supreme Court decision allowing corporations to provide unlimited funds to candidates. They will also have a voter registration drive on Sept. 26, which has been designated as National Registration Day. SAWN’s meeting schedule:
Sept. 13 at 7:00 pm at Baba’s Café in Wittenberg
Sept. 25 at 6:00 pm at the Shawano Civic Center
(“Life is Beautiful” film at 7:00 for public viewing)
Oct. 7 at 9:30 am at the Shawano City-County Library
