SHAWANO DEMS NEWSLETTER  June, 2017

VOTER SUPPRESSION/MESSAGING
One Wisconsin Now is a progressive voice on many issues.  It’s Executive Director, Scot Ross, will speak at our June 21st meeting about the Voter ID law which is being challenged in the courts.  He will also give us some messaging training so that when we want to persuade others, we will be more effective in our conversations.  He will speak at 7:00 pm at the Civic Center.
If you want to participate in one action every week, the internet site is:  onewisconsinnow.org/rebellion.

GRASSROOT’S GROUP
The enthusiasm for the Shawano Area Woman’s Network (SAWN) is growing.  This group has several events planned in the next month.  They will share the Democrat’s booth at ShawanoFest in downtown Shawano on June 24th.  They will pass out brochures in the Gresham parade on July 1st.
They will also be a part of “Fired Up for Tammy” which is a statewide barbecue for Tammy Baldwin.  This event will be held at Huckleberry Harbor from 12-6 pm on July 8th.  Tammy will run for re-election next year and needs grassroots energy, so plan to stop in for pulled pork or a hot dog.
Any woman who would like to be a part of this active group is welcome.  Their shared interests include quality education for America’s youth and quality, affordable health care for all Americans.  The group has joined the Forward Action Wisconsin Network (FAWN) which has groups in all corners of WI.
Meeting schedule:  June 26 at 6:00 pm at the Civic Center.  This will be followed at 7:00 pm by a movie.or a forum which will be open to the public.  This month’s movie is “Before the Flood” which addresses changes to our environment.
July 1st at 9:30 am at the Shawano Public Library
July 10th at 7:00 pm at Baba’s Café in Wittenberg

Chair’s Comments
Congratulations to Janice Schreiber, our new SCDP secretary.  Thanks for stepping up and helping us out.
Wed., June 14 is National Senate Call-In Day to stop TrumpCare.  AARP believes the house health care bill would harm millions of Americans, hurt Medicare’s financial solvency and drive up health insurances costs for those over 50.
Now is the time to call Senator Johnson and tell him your story about the merits of the ACA (ObamaCare).

Call Senator Ron Johnson:  202-224-5323
